Traffic Law 101:
Pennsylvania adheres to a point system. With every traffic ticket, points―ranging from two to five―are added to your driving record. If you accumulate six or more points, penalties such as suspension of your driver’s license and special driving classes begin invading your lifestyle. Below is a sampling of the points imposed for various moving violation convictions:
- Failure to stop for a red light: 3 points
- Illegal U-turn: 3 points
- Careless driving: 3 point
- Failure to stop at a railroad crossing: 4 points
- Exceeding the speed limit by 31 mph: 5 points
